DESCRIPTION

A unique plant, the Schismatoglottis wallichii, popularly called the Drop Tongue plant, is a rare foliage plant that is relatively easy to care for. It features oblong-ovate leaves that are a striking green with 2 prominent lateral silver bands. If anything, this plant was made to catch eyes (and make you trip over your tongue).

As a plant that lives natively in the underwood of tropical humid forests, the Schismatoglottis wallichii thrive best when provided with similar conditions. It prefers bright indirect light and moist soil at all times. Water about twice a week, however make sure that the plant is not sitting in water.

The Schismatoglottis wallichii does well in normal household humidity but can benefit from the occasional boost in humidity. You can use a humidifier to increase humidity at home or mist it every other day. Placing it in a tray filled will pebbles and water will also do the trick.

Will the plant look exactly like the photos?

Photos are for reference. Each live plant is unique in shape and foliage. Every plant is unique. Differences in leaf spread, branching, or fullness are normal. We select and supply plants as close as possible to the product description, while respecting natural variation.

For selected plants, do have inventory pictures available, in the listing above, check that for more accurate batch. We try to match size and overall form with our description

We aim to have it look display ready! We basically select the best from our growers, and trim and beautify it before sending them out to you.

However, there are cases of transportation or environmental shock when placed in your space etc. This may show up as mild stress due to transport and environment change. This is normal and improves after acclimatisation.

What pot will the plant come in?

Plants are supplied in a plastic grow pot/bag unless a decorative planter is added.

Repot or do not repot Plant?

Both options work — it really depends on how you plan to care for your plant.

Keeping the plant in its nursery (grow) pot is perfectly fine. Many customers do this for convenience and flexibility. However, nursery soil is primarily optimised for growing and transport, and over time it may become compacted or depleted of nutrients.

Repotting gives your plant a fresh start. When you choose our repotting service, we repot your plant using DTE Organic Soil, which is formulated for better drainage, airflow, nutrient balance, and healthier root development in home environments—especially indoors.

While your plant can remain in its nursery pot initially, we generally recommend repotting within the first few weeks for:

Improved long-term growth
Better root health and stability
Fresh nutrients suited for home conditions

In short: nursery pot is fine, repotting is better—especially if you’re looking to give your plant the best foundation to thrive.

Should I get them with Planters?

Think of it this way — a plant without a planter is a bit like heading out in your underwear. Perfectly functional… but not quite how you’d want to present it 😉

At Tumbleweed, planters are a big deal. They completely transform the look of a plant. A simple plant in a nursery pot is practical, but a well-chosen planter is what turns it into a proper home feature.

That said, it still comes down to how you prefer to live with your plants.

If you want a fully styled, ready-to-display look, adding a planter (with repotting) is the way to go. We pair plants with proportion-matched planters and, if selected, repot them using our Tumbleweed DTE Organic Soil for a clean, finished setup.

If you prefer flexibility and easy maintenance, keeping the plant in its grow pot and placing it directly into a decorative planter is also perfectly fine—and something many of our customers (and team) do. This makes it easy to:

Swap plants between planters
Upsize or downsize without mess
Water and fertilise cleanly
Refresh your space without repotting

So yes — planters are a must for the look.

Whether you repot or keep the grow pot inside is simply a matter of lifestyle and preference.

Can I place the plant indoors immediately?

Yes, for our medium to low light houseplants, we have acclaimised them to our indoor environment! do place them as per our indicated guide.

For sun loving and outdoor plants, they are always recommended to be placed outdoor!
