Buying a living plant online and having it delivered to your door is genuinely different from ordering a book or a shirt. Plants are perishable, variable in size, and sensitive to conditions. First-time online plant buyers in Singapore often have the same questions — here are honest answers to all of them.
At Tumbleweed Plants, we deliver houseplants island-wide across Singapore, including same-day delivery options. Here's exactly what to expect.

Quick Reference: Online Plant Buying in Singapore
| Question | Short Answer |
|----------|--------------|
| Will it look like the photo? | Close but not identical — each plant is a unique living specimen |
| How does it survive delivery? | Carefully packed; same-day local delivery minimises transit stress |
| What if it arrives damaged? | Contact us within 48 hours with a photo |
| Best size to order? | 6-inch/medium for most buyers; large for immediate impact |
| Safe in Singapore heat? | Yes — local delivery means no extreme temperature risk |
| What to do on arrival? | Unbox immediately, check soil, place in appropriate light |
---
1. Will the plant actually look like the photo?
The honest answer: Close, but not identical.
Plants are living things and each one is slightly different — a different height, slightly different leaf arrangement, different number of stems. The photo on a product page shows a representative specimen of that species and size, not the exact plant you'll receive.
At Tumbleweed Plants, we photograph real plants from our actual inventory. What you should expect: a plant of the same species, variety, and approximate size shown, in similar health and form. What you shouldn't expect: a plant that is pixel-perfect identical to the photo.
Each plant is a unique individual — the species, size, and health will match the listing, but exact leaf arrangement will vary naturally.

2. How do plants survive delivery in Singapore?
Better than most people expect — and in Singapore, local delivery has significant advantages over international plant shipping.
For same-day delivery (our most popular option), the plant goes from our nursery to your door within hours, in a climate-controlled or ambient-temperature vehicle. There's no multi-day transit, no temperature extremes, and no sitting in a warehouse. This is the gold standard for receiving a plant in perfect condition.
For our standard delivery, plants are carefully packed and typically reach you the same or next day — Singapore is a small city, and delivery is quick.
Our packing process:
- Nursery pots secured in the shipping box to prevent rolling or tipping
- Foliage protected to prevent breakage in transit
- Soil secured to prevent spills and root disturbance
Some minor leaf movement or slight wilting after even a short transit is normal and resolves within 24–48 hours once watered and placed in appropriate light.

3. What if my plant arrives damaged?
We stand behind every plant we deliver. If your plant arrives damaged or in poor condition:
- Open the box immediately — do not leave it closed for hours
- Photograph any damage before unpacking
- Contact us at Tumbleweed Plants within 48 hours with a photo
- We will arrange a replacement or refund — we want you to be happy with your plants
Do not discard the plant until we have confirmed a resolution — we may need to verify the condition.
For all delivery queries, you can reach us through our website or social channels.

4. What size should I order?
This depends on your budget and how quickly you want an established plant.
| Size | What to Expect | Best For |
|------|---------------|----------|
| Small / starter | Affordable; takes months to mature | Patient growers, trying a new species |
| Medium (6-inch) | Noticeable, established-looking plant | Most buyers — the sweet spot |
| Large (8–10 inch) | Immediate visual statement | Gifts, decorating now |
| Floor plants (12+ inch) | Bold statement piece | Living rooms, large HDB or condo spaces |
Rule of thumb: If you want the look immediately, buy big. If you enjoy the growing process, buy small. Plants don't grow faster just because you bought them larger — a well-cared-for starter plant will be indistinguishable from the large one eventually.

5. Is Singapore's heat a problem for plant delivery?
Good news: Singapore's year-round tropical climate (26–34°C) is actually close to ideal for most tropical houseplants. Unlike buyers in temperate countries who worry about cold-damage in winter or heat spikes in summer, Singapore buyers have a significant advantage — the temperature range here is what most houseplants naturally evolved for.
Points to note:
- Direct afternoon sun through west-facing windows can stress newly delivered plants — place new arrivals in bright indirect light for the first week
- Air-conditioned spaces can occasionally cause stress if temperatures drop below 20°C for extended periods — keep plants away from AC vents
- During Singapore's monsoon seasons (November–January and May–July), overcast skies reduce light; newly arrived plants in north-facing rooms may need a few days to adjust

6. What do I do when my plant arrives?
The first 48 hours matter:
- Unbox immediately. Don't leave the plant in the box for more than a few hours.
- Check the soil. If it's dry, water thoroughly. If it's moist from transit, wait.
- Place in appropriate light. Don't put it directly in the brightest spot you have right away — give it a few days to adjust.
- Expect some leaf adjustment. Minor wilting or leaf movement is normal "transit stress" and usually resolves within 1–2 weeks. Don't panic and don't overwater.
- Quarantine new plants for 1–2 weeks before placing them near other plants — new arrivals occasionally carry pests.
---
7. How do you pack plants to prevent soil spills?
We take this seriously — a plant that arrives as a "dirt explosion" is the last thing either of us wants.
Our packing process includes:
- Securing drainage holes to prevent soil loss
- Wrapping the soil surface and root ball to keep everything contained
- Selecting box sizes that fit each plant snugly — a too-large box lets the plant tip and shift in transit
- Protecting foliage with paper or soft wrap for larger specimens
For rare or delicate plants, we take additional precautions and may use custom packaging.
---
8. Do you ship bare root or potted?
We ship plants potted in their nursery containers. This means the root system is undisturbed and the plant arrives exactly as it left our nursery. Potted shipping is better for most houseplants because it reduces transplant stress and means you can simply place the plant in a decorative pot or repot at your own pace.
---
9. Can I return a plant I don't like?
Generally, live plants cannot be returned once delivered — they are perishable and cannot be re-sold after transit. However:
- If the plant arrived damaged, not as described, or in poor health: we will replace or refund it
- If you simply changed your mind: we unfortunately cannot accept returns on healthy plants, but we're happy to advise on care or help you find the right plant before you order
Not sure if a plant is right for your space? Message us before ordering — we're happy to advise on light requirements, pet safety, size, and care needs for your specific Singapore home.

10. How long will my plant take to settle in?
Most healthy plants acclimatise within 1–2 weeks of arrival. What to expect:
| Timeline | What You'll See |
|----------|-----------------|
| Days 1–3 | Possible minor wilting or leaf movement (normal transit stress) |
| Days 3–7 | Plant stabilising, standing upright, leaves recovering |
| Week 2–4 | First new growth — the plant has rooted into its new environment |
| Month 2+ | Fully acclimatised; growing at its natural pace |
If a plant still looks stressed after 3–4 weeks with correct care (right light, right watering, away from AC vents), contact us — we'll diagnose what's happening.
